GlobalAir.com blogger Tori Williams just posted “10 Comments Pilots are Tired of Hearing.”
Some of those include: “You must be so rich!” “Will you fly me to Florida?” “You aren’t a real pilot until you fly tailwheel,” “I didn’t know women could fly!” and “I could never do what you do. Flying is SO unsafe.”
Check out her full post here, then comment below on what you’re tired of hearing…
lol i am still laughing on the comments..
Still riding a motor cycle is tough than flying an aircraft !
i agree to this
FOLKS; the REALITY is, it takes (ones) own $$$$$ to fly, regardless be it for business or pleasure. I’m amazed of how many mature adults feel “government”, of some form, should subsidize their “passion”?
Of course, we could always “BLAME” others as an option?
XXX is the only group that can help fund candidates, and we need you to contribute to this so we can show these politicians we are behind them and keep them in congress.
Thin veil to, we are contributing because we have to bribe them to do their jobs.
“You mean that you can just get in your airplane and go wherever you want to?”
“Don’t the air traffic controllers tell you where you can go?”
I reply by asking if they need to file a trip plan with the state police before driving on a trip or ask if they must file a plan with the coast guard before going fishing.
People do not understand that an airplane is just a mode of transportation.
Flew for Delta for 30 years and now at age 80, have been flying for 63 years. Attended an FAA safety seminar some years back and the FAA guy leading the seminar stated:
“We all know that riding motorcycles is dangerous, however, it may surprise you to know that is is only the second most dangerous mode of transportation. Do you know what is the most dangerous? Sadly, it is General Aviation.”
Is it any wonder that the media and general public believe it to be dangerous?
Really? More dangerous than operating an automobile on a public highway where more than 30,000 are killed every year averaging nearly 100 per day? Sorry, but the numbers simply don’t support any of your conclusions which should be intuitively obvious. I’d much rather take my chances with flying any day compared to driving where there is absolutely no shortage of idiots especially intoxicated and distracted idiots.
Those aren’t MY COMMENTS, they were the FAA Guy’s who led the safety seminar.
Yeah, I’ve been to one of those safety seminars and heard the same thing.
But, it is a numbers game. There are x miles flown by GA aircraft per year, single pilot, and they end in y crashes involving n fatalities.
Compared to the number of miles driven a year and that number divided by the number of deaths, GA looks pretty sad.
And that is how insurance companies decide that unless you get a rider, they will not cover you when you fly a plane.
And that is partly why the company I work for goes gonzo when asked if I could fly myself to some meeting rather than taking commercial transportation. If I fly the plane while doing something that could be taken as representing my employer, there will be a pink slip waiting for me when I get back.
Back when I was flying airline, the company furnished free life insurance. I never could understand why it would cover me when riding a motorcycle but not when I was flying a private plane.
Statistically riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than flying a general aviation aircraft.
Variations of (or the mindset of) “flying is a hobby.”
WRONG – I’m totally convinced my PPL opened the door to my present job w UPS Airlines and that as I add new ratings and rates I’m exposed to more aviation opportunities – as well as adventures.
WORKING HARD ON OUR 3RD CLASS MEDICAL. SEND MORE MONEY.
