Andrew Schmertz, a blogger at the Huffington Post, says in a recent post that the very thing that GA fears could actually save general aviation: Drones.
Also known as unmanned aerial systems and remotely piloted aircraft, drones are not only enticing kids into aviation, but also adults, who once they’ve gotten a taste of flight, want to try it in a “real” airplane. “And that’s the “a-ha” moment,” he says in the post.

Leave it to the Huffington Post to get it all wrong. Comparing drones to VCRs is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. (But let’s face it, dumb is SOP for the Huff.)
While Holly wood might have feared a loss of revenue from VCR sales, I dare say none of them thought their lives were in danger because of a video tape crossing their path as they made their final steps towards the front door. As more people become enamored with these “new, high tech, accessible” toys, and their lack of “burdensome regulations”, the risk that some knot-head will fly one past my nose, while I’m on short final, increases. And that WILL put my life in danger.
“And as of now, there aren’t burdensome regulations that will crimp their growth.”
If HuffPo says anything I believe it would be a lie, politically biased or uninformed. HuffPo would not cover Trumph because they seemed to know that Trumph could not become the republican nominee!
The author of the HuffPo article makes a good point.
