“Mixture set.” I wish the POH’s (and more CFI’s) would discuss that. Unless you’re flying a turbocharged engine or normally a aspirated engine below 3,000’, mixture RICH is not what you want set. Think of “mixture set for go around” based on the density altitude of your landing surface. I find that an often difficult concept to comprehend when I instruct. Rich is an ingrained teaching point during the basic process.
There is more to flying life than sea level flying. I know it would add considerable cost to learning how to fly, but how much more capable would pilots be by training to capability in a basic backcountry environment?
