Fred Johnsen, the force behind the Airailimages YouTube channel and the Of Wings & Things columnist, just posted two videos to YouTube showing highlights from the ceremonies held Sept. 2, 2020, in Pearl Harbor commemorating the 75th anniversary of World War II.
“There is a deliberate irony that the battleship Missouri, where the Japanese surrender was signed on Sept. 2, 1945, is moored within view of the battleship Arizona memorial where the war began for America,” Fred says.
“For me, it was quite a day watching the livestreams and recordings. I’ve grown up surrounded by World War II veterans (Mom and Dad both worked in aircraft plants in southern California), and that era and these people move me deeply. This is the last major remembrance ceremony so many World War II veterans will live to see.”
The video includes footage from the Department of Defense, Fred notes.
