Swiss pilots on around-the-world flight make pit stop in Texas

By General Aviation News Staff · March 3, 2022 ·

Diamondo Earthrounding’s Diamond DA50 RG, which is on an around-the-world flight to raise awareness of increasing sustainable aviation practices, is in Fort Worth, Texas, where the airplane is getting its 200-hour in-service inspection from Premier Aircraft Sales.

The globe-hopping Diamond DA50 RG will also be part of Premier Aircraft Sales’ exhibit during the US Aircraft Expo, March 4-5, 2022, at Addison Airport (KADS) in Addison, Texas.

“Premier Aircraft Sales is extremely proud to be donating the labor to perform the required 200-hour inspection and service for these amazing pilots and their incredible DA50 RG,” said Travis Peffer, CEO, Premier Aircraft Sales. “Along with being the first Diamond Authorized Service Center in the U.S. to perform this service on any Diamond DA50 RG, our entire team is honored to assist the Diamondo Earthrounding crew’s noteworthy mission in any way we can.”

The pilots for the mission are longtime friends Matthias Nederhäuser and Robin Wenger. The two aviators began their journey Jan. 2, 2022, from Zurich, Switzerland. Traveling eastbound to take advantage of prevailing winds, they are scheduled to arrive back at their home airport on April 22, 2022, in concurrence with World Earth Day.

Powered by a 300-hp Continental CDI-300, FADEC-equipped, turbo-diesel engine, the Diamond DA50 RG is using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at every location where it is available. Through their partnership with Jet Aviation and its SAF “Book and Claim” system, the flight can claim to conduct its circumnavigation with net-zero carbon emissions.

can claim to conduct with zero carbon emissions.
    That’s silly.
    BEAUTIFUL airplane though.
Can’t decide if it looms better with the big diesel or as a -62 with two small diesels.
