Joni M. Fisher submitted this photo and note: “Team 33, The Lady Aces, gives Richele Floyd a lift to check the fuel. The team departed Lakeland Linder International Airport Tuesday June 21, 2022, for the women’s Air Race Classic, a four-day, 2,500-mile route that ended in Terre Haute, Indiana.”

    It looks to be a Cardinal…no struts.!
    But, someone forgot the ladder to check the fuel…3-4 steps works to be able to reach the fuel caps and look inside.
    It’s a good thing that there was 3 of them.!

      During the air race it is important to be as light as possible. They purposefully did not have a ladder.

      There are no struts on this airplane. The step you see is on the retractable landing gear.
