EAA to introduce 70th anniversary beer at AirVenture 2023

By General Aviation News Staff · May 17, 2023 ·

Pilots and aviation enthusiasts attending EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 can get a taste of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s 70th anniversary as EAA partners with Stone Arch Brew Pub of Appleton, Wisconsin, to produce a special commemorative beer.

The Kölsch beer will be available in select Fox Valley grocery stores beginning July 1, and sold at camp stores on the grounds during AirVenture 2023, July 24-30.

The beer cans will feature one of seven unique labels, one released each day of AirVenture and each representing a part of EAA’s history. Only one design will be available in grocery stores, but all seven can be purchased on the AirVenture grounds, according to EAA officials.

The Warbirds design is the first of the seven-can collection.

“In 2019, EAA offered a specialty beer to commemorate 50 years in Oshkosh, and it was an instant hit with our members and attendees,” said Chris Farrell, EAA’s director of events, and food & beverage. “They asked if we could repeat this for EAA’s 70th anniversary. It gives us the opportunity to highlight EAA’s legacy.”

The specific beer was chosen in part by attendees of the Flight at the Museum event in March 2023, and an EAA staff tasting, according to association officials.

Kölsch beer classifies as a “Pale Bitter European Beer,” and originates from Germany. This specific Kölsch beer is described as having a “very clean, slightly grainy malt, low bitterness, light hop flavor.”

Suggest also asking the Aviator Brewery in Fuquay-Varina, NC, to do the same. Its owner, Mark Doble, flies a Mustang II that he built himself. In fact, his first brewery was built in his hangar alongside his Mustang II. Mark also cans his own beer, makes his own graphics for them, and exports it to Europe. He follows the strict German purity laws and really knows his trade. His EAA 1114 chapter and other pilots have helped decorate his brewery, taphouse, and two restaurants with aviation memorabilia. He just acquired the fuselage of an authentic Berlin Airlift C-54 and hauled it to his new brewery under construction to serve as a lounge and preserved aviation history. https://www.aviatorbrew.com/

EAA BEER. Beer can collectors will have an instant collector item. Unlike Bud ( all versions) nobody will shoot at the.
Back when I was a kid Reich Brewery in Springfield Illinois brewed beer. 30 years ago a collector might pay $28 for one dumpty can.
I wonder if EAA BEER will replace the $1,000 hamburger?
