Fred Johnsen, the force behind the Airailimages YouTube channel and General Aviation News Of Wings & Things columnist, recently posted this video of damage to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, following a Feb. 28, 2024, tornado.
“One of the worst nightmares for a museum is storm damage,” Fred says in the introduction to the video.
The tornado hit a restoration hangar and ramp area of the museum. Damaged aircraft visible in the raw footage include a Douglas A-26 Invader, a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, and a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star.
Blown-in windows and hangar doors leave questions open about any damage to airframes and artifacts inside the restoration hangar.
Fortunately no injuries were reported following the early-morning severe weather event on Feb. 28, 2024.
The video was shot by Jeff Harris and Austin Smith, Fred noted.
Have they made any progress on the tornado damaged and the aircraft parked inside the buildings?
