EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — Registration opens Sept. 3, 2024, for the EAA Air Academy, the longest running youth aviation residence camp in the world, which will enter 2025 with an updated focus and more opportunities for young people engaging with the world of flight, according to officials with the Experimental Aircraft Association.
The six sessions of the Air Academy, which begin June 12 and continue through Aug. 2, are based at the EAA Air Academy Lodge in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The sessions are designed for young people between the ages of 14 and 18, with age-appropriate activities that connect campers with aviation through flight experiences and hands-on projects, EAA officials explained.
“Since the EAA Air Academy began in 1984, it has continued to evolve to bring the best aviation experiences to young people and add emerging technology to those experiences,” said Paul Maloy, EAA Director of Education. “Our emphasis on the 14-to-18-year-old group allows us to bring more of them into the camp, as traditionally we have had a significant waiting list each year, while also offering a schedule that focuses on discovery and fun.”

Sessions include:
- Explore Aviation Camp: This is equivalent to the long-established EAA Basic and Advanced Air Academy sessions, including flight simulators, hands-on projects, flying experiences, and more.
- Discover Flight Camp: This new camp coming in 2025, and held every other year, allows a deeper dive into aviation through ground-school style lessons covering aerodynamics, navigation, and flight planning.
- Navigating Horizons Camp (coming in 2026): This camp, rotating every other year with Discover Flight, offers an immersive summer experience for aspiring aviators aged 14 to 18 who are eager to explore the diverse career opportunities within the aviation industry.
