Stop lugging gas cans

By General Aviation News Staff · October 22, 2024 · 4 Comments

The Smart Ass Fuel Mule from Smart Ass Products.

The Smart Ass Fuel Mule is a motorized 50 gallon electric gas caddy.

A 750-watt brushless motor powers the Fuel Mule across uneven and bumpy terrain as well as ramps up to 29° for easy loading/unloading from the bed of a pick-up, according to company officials.

A thumb throttle with reverse toggle switch, hydraulic disc brakes, and 10-inch off road tires make for easy maneuvering and control.

The electric pump will move 15 gallons of fuel per minute through a 10-foot antistatic fuel hose that includes an automatic shutoff. The ‘Aviation Edition’ includes an 18-foot antistatic fuel hose, 20-foot retractable bonding reel, and a filter/water-separator.

Everything is powered by a 24-volt rechargeable battery system and includes a charger.

Compatible with gasoline, E10, E85, diesel, kerosene, avgas, and Jet A, the Smart Ass Fuel Mule ‘Aviation Edition’ is priced at $5,245.

Super cool to see this company and product getting the recognition it deserves! I have personally got to use one of these fuel mules and I was super impressed! And as a fabricator myself the construction is solid and reliable. Looking forward to what they come up with in the future

This is how sport aviators can dramatically lower the cost of flying – by using more affordable, lead-free, ethanol-free mogas, the preferred fuel for nearly all new aircraft engines. Pure-gas.org shows where to find it, at over 17,000 sellers in North America, far more than the number of FBOs.

That’s great info, thanks Kent!!! I will reach out to https://www.pure-gas.org/ to see if they might have any interest in letting people know about the Smart Ass Fuel Mule for transporting that fuel!

Out of curiosity– how much $$ in savings per gallon might a sport aviator save using mogas over AVGAS would you say on average. I know in the boating world, marina fuel can cost $2-$4 more per gallon over fuel from a street pump. And people don’t always have a marina nearby, and they waste time and fuel going to the marina. For those of use that use our boats regularly, that can be a savings of $5700/year or more (that’s based on my own use case). And a mountain of time saved.

Would be greatly appreciative of your help getting the word out on what we’re doing here! You can always reach me at jerry AT smartassproducts DOT net if you’d like!

Thanks for sharing. If anyone has any questions about these things, please hit us up!!! They are absolute game changers, and in case you want to skip to the demonstration in that video above jump to about 8:06 and you’ll see the finish filling to about 51gallons, then me easily unloading it on the ramps using the brakes, reloading it on the ramps using the throttle and electric motor, and I do both with one hand, just to show it’s capable.
