General Aviation News was once known as Western Flyer or d as one thing similar, you would see the small news paper in just about any aviation related business. I was finishing my shift and off the clock while browsing the help wanted section when I saw this small add from a small airline located in Nome Alaska. The add was placed by the chief pilot and he was looking for able bodied airmen willing to relocate to the bush. I called the number and was told that I would need to speak with the director of maintenance who wasn’t in at the moment. I left my number, he called me back, ask for a resume and hired me. That moment forever changed my life. I could have been killed like so many others or I could get rich if I played my hand right. I didn’t get killed.
I left for Nome on December 11, 1987 with just my clothes and my toolbox. I left everything else behind.
