New documentary showcases GA in South Africa

By General Aviation News Staff · October 23, 2025 · Leave a Comment

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has released the fourth installment of its AOPA Presents mini-documentary series, “Under African Skies.”

The 13-minute documentary takes viewers on a flying journey across the country — from encounters with the “Big Five” animals to scenic vistas across the savanna, the Karoo Desert, and Cape Town’s rugged coastline.

Along the way, it explores how general aviation connects people and communities, whether on rural farms where airplanes provide a lifeline or at Sling Aircraft in Johannesburg, which produces aircraft that are flown worldwide, according to AOPA officials.

“We weren’t quite sure what to expect before we got to South Africa,” said AOPA Video Content Producer Brianna Cabassa. “Once we arrived, we quickly learned the aviation community is passionate and eager to share their love of flying. There are many parts of the country that can only be experienced from the air — and it’s breathtaking.”

The full AOPA Presents series, including “Under African Skies,” is available now on AOPA’s YouTube channel.
