GA barred from nation’s 12 biggest airports

By General Aviation News Staff · November 11, 2025 · 1 Comment

New NOTAMs went into effect Nov. 10, 2025, prohibiting general aviation and non-scheduled operations at:

  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
  • Dallas Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Denver (DEN)
  • Boston Logan (BOS)
  • Houston Bush Intercontinental (IAH)
  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • John F. Kennedy (JFK)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Washington National (DCA)
  • Seattle-Tacoma (SEA)

These restrictions were published as individual NOTAMs for each affected facility, although the language of the NOTAMs is identical, according to officials with the National Air Transportation Association (NATA).

Limited exceptions apply for:

  • Based aircraft
  • Emergency, medical, law enforcement, firefighting, or military operations
  • Flights specifically authorized by the FAA

The end date of the NOTAMs is the end of 2025.

The NOTAMs follow on an Emergency Order released by the FAA Nov. 7 that requires a 10% reduction in airline flights at 40 “high-impact” airports across the country.

You can read the Emergency Order here.
