Jamail Larkins has been spreading the gospel of aviation since 2004 with his first DreamLaunch tour.
In 2025, he’s been busy traveling the country, talking to students — well just about anyone interested in aviation — which led us to launch this new feature: Where’s Jamail?
Every once in a while we’ll let you know where Jamail’s been, who he’s talking to, the best questions the kids ask, and even what Jamail learns from the encounters.
The first is from the Southern California DreamLaunch event sponsored by Tempest Aero:
“Because of a presentation commitment at the University Aviation Association Conference, I was only able to visit Glendora High School in person. But we had 250 students from West Covina, Garey High School, and AB Miller join us virtually for an amazing LA stop on the DreamLaunch Tour. To say I’m jealous of high school students having access to full-motion simulators as a part of their high school diploma would be an understatement. Aviation Teacher Sindie Dear developed a first class aviation curriculum for her students and the questions they asked are evidence, such as:
What do you recommend for someone starting out?
Answer: Once you know you’re going to do it, get your private pilot written exam out of the way first. It will save you thousands in flight training experiences. It’s not the most fun way to learn, but much better than learning the basics with a $5 or more a minute meter running inside of the cockpit.
