In a Dec. 3, 2025, update to the FAA’s Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners, the agency revised the antidepressant/SSRI protocol, decreasing the time a pilot must be stable on a medication from six months to three months.
Other updates to medical guidelines instituted on that day include:
- Revised the protocol for initial certification requirements for pilots with diabetes, expanding the values for Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) data, as well as CoV values, which measure glycemic variability, showing how much blood sugar fluctuates
- Revised the migraine medication pharmacy page to include Zofran, as well as standardized the no-fly time after certain medications to 48 hours
- Revised the list of vaccines, adding Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) and Chikungunya vaccines with no required no fly time.
