Sightseeing flight ends in river

By General Aviation News Staff · December 16, 2025 · 5 Comments

The pilot reported that he and a passenger had departed for a local sight-seeing flight in the Cessna 150.

While flying low over a river near Mount Vernon, Alabama, the left wing hit the water. The impact “pulled the plane into the river,” which resulted in substantial damage to the forward fuselage, wings, and tail structure.

Probable Cause: The pilot’s decision to operate the airplane at a low altitude over a river and his failure to maintain clearance from the river while maneuvering.

NTSB Identification: 193506

Sadly, but inevitably – and unfortunately – the aviation fraternity will never be short of arrogant conceited fools showing off their “superior” low flying skills.

      Yes, Paul.
I have seen a few in my part of the world too. Superior skills and arrogance with an unhappy endings.
