Ranger Airfield under new ownership

By Ben Sclair · December 24, 2025 · Leave a Comment

RANGER, Texas — Ranger Airfield (F23), which dates back to 1911, is now owned by the Ranger Airfield Foundation (RAF). The transfer of ownership from the city of Ranger to the RAF took place in early December 2025.

A raffle for an Aeronca Champ sold out mid-December and the winner will be selected on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, at 3 pm.

Proceeds from the raffle will help to restore the airport’s original 1928 hangar, according to RAF officials. The hangar still stands, but is hidden under numerous additions.

Originally 60 feet by 60 feet, it had 18 large windows, sliding doors, Texas Pacific signage, and a Thurber Brick Co. floor that Amelia Earhart herself once walked on, RAF officials noted.

It has been and will continue to be a true, working Golden Age hangar, restored to as it was in 1928, officials added.

The next phase of development at the airport will be the construction of 1920s vintage-style, private hangars.

Scott Perdue from the FlyWire YouTube channel stopped by Ranger in early December and met with Foundation Director Jared Calvert for a chat and a tour.
