Picture of the day: With a little help from my friends

By General Aviation News Staff · January 9, 2026 · Leave a Comment

Ken Snyder submitted these photos with a note: “First flight after installing a Curtiss Reed propeller on my 1930 Waco RNF. In the background is Stanton Airfield (KSYN) in Minnesota. It’s a rare day to have such beautiful weather in mid November in Minnesota.”

“Removing the wooden propeller unknowingly became a huge project. It took almost everyone I knew helping come up with a solution to break free the propeller nut. Eventually my car mechanic supplied a electrical induction tool, my machinist friend made a special tool, and my local tire shop lent me a 3/4 inch drive impact wrench to loosen the propeller nut. My friends supplied the muscle, ideas, and encouragement that finally did it! Many thanks to everyone who helped!”
