ENID, Oklahoma — A student-built RV-12iS Light Sport Aircraft took flight for the first time Jan. 14, 2026, at Woodring Regional Airport (KWDG).
The LSA was built by students at Enid High School as part of the Tango Flight.
The high school used the curriculum provided by Tango Flight, an educational non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the next generation of engineers, pilots, aviation mechanics, and technicians. The curriculum blends classroom learning with hands-on training where students apply their knowledge building an airplane.
“We are so excited by the completion of the first Tango Flight airplane build project at Enid High School,” said Dan Weyant, Tango Flight executive director. “The students did an outstanding job on this airplane. Their hard work and attention to detail have resulted in a high-quality aircraft… one of the best built RV-12iS in the country.”
Enid’s program was developed with assistance from a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA).
Other Oklahoma high schools that are participating in the Tango Flight program include:
- Durant High School
- McAlester High School
- Oklahoma Aviation Academy, Norman Public Schools
- Pryor High School
- Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah
- Northeast Technology Center in Afton
McAlester, Northeast Tech, Pryor, and Oklahoma Aviation Academy are expected to finish their aircraft during the spring 2026 school semester, state aviation officials noted.

What a great project for those kids at Enid High School.
No videos? Would have liked to see it on it’s maiden flight.
