Stallion 51, a flight training operation based at Kissimmee Gateway Airport (KISM) in Florida, recently held a training session for 94 members of the Kissimmee Fire Department.
Stallion 51, which specializes in offering training in World War II-era aircraft, including the P-51 Mustang, held the training Jan. 20-22, 2026, to teach the firefighters how to assist in an emergency.
Officials note that at air shows, it is mandatory that performers attend extraction safety briefings with first responders and emergency services so they can be prepared to assist in the event of an accident.

During the training session, each member of the fire department was educated on the proper methods of efficiently and safely extracting the flight crew from a P-51 Mustang, T-6 Texan, and L-39 TurboJet.

This is the third training session over the past several years that has been conducted at Stallion 51, with more to be scheduled in the future, according to officials.

Over 10 years of owning/managing a local fbo in NH we made an overt effort to include neighbors, bring in the local school kids (a great Michael Goulian story there) and do repetitive fire/rescue training. My background was military aviation and ground safety so I could speak even more professionally in that arena. It made it easy to set up a practice acro box in the neighborhood for Michael to get ready for ‘The Worlds’ and when the guys came to pull me out if the wreckage of a ‘27 WACO we had spun in after an engine failure, they knew what they were dealing with. I guess that has come to mean pay it forward…
