Pilots N Paws, a non-profit organization that uses volunteer general aviation pilots to save animals, is planning the biggest one-day pet flyaway in Minnesota and Missouri history. But the organization needs more pilots to pitch in for the Pups N Props effort.
Volunteer pilots from around the midwest are working to fly more than 100 dogs as a group from Missouri up to the Twin Cities to foster homes, giving them a second chance at life. These animals are coming from rescue organizations that pulled the dogs from shelters where they were scheduled to be euthanized due to overcrowding, according to Pilots N Paws officials.
Volunteer pilots will fly to St Louis Regional Airport (KALN) in Missouri Feb. 28, 2026. According to organizers, hotel and meals will be covered for the volunteer pilots and crates will be provided. Fuel used for the flights is tax-deductible.
The flyaway will leave KALN March 1 at 7 a.m., flying to Airlake Airport (KLVN) in Lakeville, Minnesota, where the dogs will be transferred to their new homes.
The following weekend is reserved as a back up in case of inclement weather, noted Rachel Jouppi, a Pilots N Paws volunteer who is organizing the flyaway effort.
