LightHawk, a non-profit that uses volunteer general aviation pilots to capture aerial imagery, transport endangered species, and provide data and insights that help protect wildlife and the environment, has begun the process of looking for a new chief executive officer.
James “Jim” Becker, who has been CEO since 2022, will transition from his role in the coming months as he prepares for retirement, according to LightHawk officials.
“This decision has not come easily,” Becker said. “Serving LightHawk and supporting the extraordinary pilots, partners, and staff who make this mission possible has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I’m so proud of what we have accomplished together and confident in LightHawk’s future.”
To ensure a smooth transition, Becker will remain involved in a consulting capacity following his retirement, supporting program and aviation operations and ensuring continuity and knowledge transfer, officials noted.
The LightHawk Board of Directors has assembled a Search Committee and launched a national search to identify the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer.
LightHawk expects to announce Becker’s retirement date and successor following completion of the search process.
