Historic Palms To Pines Air Race Returns in 2026

By General Aviation News Staff · March 19, 2026 · Leave a Comment

The Los Angeles Chapter of The Ninety-Nines is bringing back the historic Palms to Pines Air Race, an all-women’s race, in August 2026.

Founded in 1969 by Claire L. Walters as a women-only precision air race, the Palms to Pines Air Race ran for approximately four decades and became a respected West Coast aviation tradition, according to chapter officials. After a long hiatus, the LA99s revived the race in 2022 and 2023, and it returns again in 2026, set for Aug. 13-15.

Teams will compete across a multi-leg route from Southern California to Madras, Oregon, combining precision flying, cross-country strategy, and teamwork.

“This race continues to challenge and inspire women pilots while honoring the legacy of those who paved the way,” said Yolanda Cortes, Race Chair.

The 2026 route begins at Santa Monica Airport and includes a fly-by of Modesto Airport, a mandatory overnight stop in Red Bluff, California, and a fly-by of Butte Valley Airport, before concluding at Madras Airport in Central Oregon.

Awards will be presented at a banquet hosted by the Central Oregon Chapter of The Ninety-Nines.

Entry Fees:

  • Ninety-Nines Members: $397
  • Non-Members: $497
  • Additional Passenger(s): $95

Race kits are available at PalmsToPinesAirRace.com
