Celebrate Wilbur Wright’s Birthday

By General Aviation News Staff · March 25, 2026 · Leave a Comment

KITTY HAWK, N.C. — The First Flight Society will celebrate the fifth annual Wilbur Wright Day, a commemoration of aviation pioneer Wilbur Wright, on April 16, 2026.

Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867, near Millville, Indiana, the middle child in a family of five children.

The event celebrating his 159th birthday will be at Jennette’s Pier starting at 6 p.m. and includes food and drinks. Each ticket purchased also gets you a free one-year membership in the First Flight Society. Tickets are $50 each.

The birthday party will also include a silent auction to raise money for First Flight Society programs.

Without the First Flight Society there would not be a Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The Kill Devil Hills Memorial Association, later named First Flight Society, began as a group of local businessmen who petitioned the US Congress to fund and build a monument to the Wright Brothers’ historic 1903 flight. The society celebrates its 99th year in 2026.

Tickets for the birthday party are available at FirstFlight.org
