New Propeller STC’d for Cirrus SR22

By General Aviation News Staff · April 2, 2026 · 4 Comments

MT-Propeller has received an FAA STC for the installation of its scimitar 3-blade propeller on Cirrus SR22s powered by Continental IO-550-N engines.

This installation is also STC’d by EASA, TCAA Canada, and in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and New Zealand.

According to MT-Propeller Vice President Martin Albrecht, the installation features:

  • Enhanced takeoff distance by approximately -7%
  • Enhanced climb by approximately 3%
  • Cruise performance increased by 3 to 4 knots
  • Approximately 20 pounds less weight than the original aluminum propellers
  • Inside noise reduced by 3 to 4 dB(A).

MT-Propellers have no life limitation and are repairable in case of a FOD, company officials add.

MT-Propeller holds more than 230 STCs worldwide and is an OEM supplier for more than 90% of the European aircraft industry as well as 55% of the US aircraft industry.

I hate to possibly prove my ignorance but isn’t that a continental engine not Lycoming?

In the article, you reference the engine as a Lycoming IO-550N but, Lycoming does not make a IO-550N engine, that engine is made by Continental Aerospace Technologies.
