Picture of the Day: Guess I’ll Wait a Bit Longer

By General Aviation News Staff · April 2, 2026 · 1 Comment

Dean Heistad submitted this photo and note: “Fog on departure presents a risk I’m unwilling to take. I’ll wait another hour for sunrise, fog to burn off, and safety to increase exponentially!”

    Gorgeous picture none the less.
Not sure if I see it correctly but that does look less than minimums to land.

That being said, back in the day when I was at a lower altitude on the west coast I got a kick out of breaking out on top. The controllers always seemed to point me directly into the sun. The time from grey soup to brilliant sunlight could be as little as 5 seconds, but usually about 10 as I recall. That last moment when clearing the top was always glorious.

Now in the rockies and IFR flying up here as an old man doesn’t do anything for me. It’s just too pretty not to see the rocks in the rockies !
