Sporty’s has introduced the PJ2 GPS, a handheld aviation radio that combines the simplicity pilots trust with new GPS and connectivity features, according to company officials.
First introduced in 2019, the original PJ2 redefined the backup radio by eliminating adapters and focusing on intuitive, cockpit-first design. The follow-on PJ2+ expanded on that success with more power and flexibility, Sporty’s officials noted.
The new PJ2 GPS integrates GPS, Bluetooth audio, a color display, and a built-in intercom, while maintaining the radio’s straightforward operation, officials said.

Designed as a “Plan B” in the cockpit, the PJ2 GPS adds essential navigation capabilities to its core communication role. Built-in GPS provides in-flight data, including groundspeed, altitude, and track, along with simplified waypoint navigation to help pilots get home in an emergency.
The radio remains purpose-built for backup use, delivering only the most essential information without unnecessary complexity. A one-touch emergency mode tunes 121.5 as the active frequency and navigates to your predetermined home airport, while the dedicated squelch knob makes it easy to fine tune reception.

Introductory price: $399. Each unit includes both lithium-ion rechargeable and AA battery packs, a USB-C charging cable, wall charger, and belt clip.
