KITTY HAWK, N.C. — The First Flight Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of the Wright brothers, raised more than $7,000 during a celebration of Wilbur Wright’s birthday April 16, 2026.

The event brought together more than 100 aviation enthusiasts and community members to celebrate the legacy of aviation’s pioneers while raising funds for the society’s educational initiatives, according to society officials.

The money raised will allow the organization to continue providing immersive learning experiences and community events that tell the story of the First Flight and its impact on the world, they added.

“Raising these funds ensures that we can continue to inspire future generations by keeping the story of the Wright brothers alive through education and outreach,” said K. Lynn Tadlock, Vice President of the First Flight Society.

Founded in 1927, the First Flight Society has spent nearly a century preserving and sharing the legacy of the Wright brothers and their historic contribution to aviation. The society brings its mission to life through community celebrations, commemorative programs, educational outreach, and events that connect visitors and local residents with aviation history.

A point… The Wrights did not fly solely by their own skills and abilities…

The Wright Flyer was powered by an engine designed/built/maintained
by their first mechanic… Charles E Taylor ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Taylor_(mechanic)
