What Inspired the Wright Brothers?

By General Aviation News Staff · May 20, 2026 · 1 Comment

Did you know that it was a toy helicopter that inspired the Wright brothers?

That’s what Caroline Tapp, Social and Cultural Curator of Aviation at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, shares with an FAA official as they explore the museum’s aviation toys exhibit.

This is the latest video in a series from the FAA exploring the milestones and inspirations that shaped America’s flight path as the nation approaches its 250th birthday.

I guess that’s when he started thinking back about that little toy?
That museum in Dayton is fascinating and should be visited by all aviators!
