KISSIMMEE, Florida — The City of Kissimmee has secured a $10 million federal grant to support construction of a new air traffic control tower at Kissimmee Gateway Airport (KISM).
Funding was awarded through the FAA Contract Tower Program for Fiscal Year 2026.
“The project will replace the airport’s aging control tower with a modern facility designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety, and provide upgraded working conditions and visibility for air traffic controllers serving the region,” city officials said.
The existing tower was built in 29 years ago in 1997.
The project is part of the city’s broader commitment to investing in Kissimmee Gateway Airport as a center for business aviation, pilot training, tourism, and regional economic growth, city officials added.
Additional details, including construction timelines and design updates, will be shared as the project progresses.

How/why is a building not even 30 years old considering “aging” and in need of replacement—and at $10 million?
Great question! I was wondering the same thing. I guess that’s why they want to use ADS-B to collect landing fees.
