Drone Show to Illuminate Sky Above Air Force Museum

DAYTON, Ohio — The night sky above the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will come alive on June 26, 2026, as 500 drones take flight during “Lights Over Dayton: A Celebration of Flight,” a free community event.

Presented by the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and the National Aviation Heritage Area, the event will feature a drone light show choreographed to music and narration. The aerial display will unfold across a canvas approximately 600 feet wide by 400 feet tall above the museum, bringing the story of flight to life in the night sky, according to museum officials.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early and make a full evening of the experience. Museum galleries, the Air Force Museum Store and museum attractions — including simulators and theater experiences — will remain open until 9 p.m. Community partners will be available inside the museum throughout the day, while food trucks on museum grounds will offer a variety of dining options before the drone show. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and enjoy a picnic while taking in the evening’s activities. The drone show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., weather permitting.

The synchronized soundtrack and narration accompanying the drone show will be broadcast live on 95.3 The Eagle and 101.1 The Eagle, featuring narration by veteran Dayton broadcaster James Brown. Visitors are encouraged to listen using a portable radio or vehicle radio, as streaming through mobile apps may introduce delays.

Admission and parking are free. Because the event is expected to draw large crowds, visitors are encouraged to review parking information and event updates online prior to arrival. A second museum entrance will open beginning at 5 p.m. to help accommodate increased traffic volume, but visitors are welcome to arrive earlier in the day.

In the event of inclement weather, the rain date is June 27, 2026. Any schedule changes will be announced as early as possible on the museum’s website and social media channels.
