BRECKENRIDGE, Texas — Officials at Fielden Aero, the exclusive U.S. distributor for Flybox Avionics, report the new Flybox SkySense AS, a compact air data instrument designed for ultralight, light-sport, experimental, and homebuilt aircraft, is now available in the United States.
The instrument offers indicated airspeed, vertical speed, altimeter display, and true airspeed when used with an optional probe. The altimeter can be configured in tape or drum format, and each indication can be configured using the pilot’s preferred units of measurement, according to company officials.
SkySense AS combines this essential flight information into an ultra-thin round instrument available in both 2-¼ in (57mm) and 3-⅛ in (80mm) sizes.
“SkySense AS is exactly the kind of product that fits the homebuilt and light aircraft market,” said Don Fielden, owner of Fielden Aero. “It gives pilots important flight information in a compact, easy-to-read instrument without forcing a full panel redesign. That matters to builders who want modern capability, but still care about panel space, budget, and installation simplicity.”
SkySense AS also features an anti-glare TFT display, automatic dimming, and a 280° smart scale designed to improve visibility and interpretation in changing light conditions, from bright daylight to evening operations, he added.
For builders and aircraft owners looking to modernize their panels, SkySense AS offers practical flexibility, he noted. User-configurable scales and units allow the instrument to be tailored to a specific aircraft or pilot preference, and free pre-configuration is available upon request. The instrument also includes CAN bus connectivity for integration with compatible avionics systems, along with a self-diagnostic system that continuously monitors instrument health.
“Aircraft builders are a practical group,” Fielden said. “They want products that work, install cleanly, and are supported by people who understand experimental aircraft. SkySense AS brings together strong capability, excellent screen readability, and a compact form factor that makes sense for the aircraft many of our customers are building and flying.”
