Dynon Adds IFR Navigation Capability to SkyView HDX

Dynon has revealed the development of an integrated IFR GPS navigation capability for its SkyView HDX avionics system. The next-generation system is being built for simultaneous rollout across both the Dynon Certified and experimental SkyView HDX product lines, according to company officials.

Company officials note the upgrade relies on a new, remote-mounted IFR hardware module that installs behind the instrument panel. This modular architecture keeps the aircraft’s radio stack clear, providing aircraft owners with greater panel flexibility for larger displays or additional storage, they explain.

Key capabilities of the upcoming system include:

  • Full IFR Navigation: Supports RNAV approaches down to LPV minimums, offering both horizontal and vertical guidance.
  • Redesigned Flight Planner: Integrates a visual workflow directly into the SkyView HDX software, allowing pilots to load departures, arrivals, and transitions cleanly.
  • Autopilot Integration: Couples directly to the Dynon autopilot system for hands-off approach execution.
  • MOSAIC Readiness: Provides a space-saving navigation solution tailored to meet new regulations allowing IFR operations in Light Sport Aircraft.

“With this upcoming capability, we intend for SkyView HDX owners to fly IFR missions, including coupled LPV approaches, without sacrificing a single inch of valuable radio stack panel space,” said Brad Thurow, President of Dynon.

Advanced flight testing and formal certification efforts are currently underway. Pricing details and official availability dates will be announced as release timelines are finalized.
