Adventure Pilot and MyFirePlane Introduce Smart Gear Alerts

By General Aviation News Staff · July 23, 2026 · Leave a Comment

Fire Boss amphibious aircraft operating over water with landing gear extended

Adventure Pilot, in partnership with MyFirePlane, has introduced Smart Gear Alerts, a new iFly EFB safety system designed to prevent landing gear accidents.

Smart Gear Alerts determines whether an aircraft is approaching a runway or water landing, compares that environment with the aircraft’s actual landing gear position, and provides visual and audible warnings when the configuration is incorrect, company officials explain.

In a clear voice, the system announces the specific hazard and required action, such as “Water Landing Detected” or “Go Around! Check Gear!”

“Approach and landing are high-workload phases of flight, and even experienced pilots can miss a critical checklist item,” said Juanita Boyd, Vice President of Business Development at Adventure Pilot. “Smart Gear Alerts provides a final, intelligent safeguard by telling pilots exactly what is wrong and what action they need to take.”

By combining aircraft position, airport, terrain, and waterway data with a direct indication of physical gear position, Smart Gear Alerts warns only when the aircraft’s configuration does not match the intended landing surface. This reduces nuisance alerts while providing another layer of protection for pilots, passengers, and aircraft.

Smart Gear Alerts is initially available to select iFly EFB fleet customers, with installations expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The system requires supplemental hardware that detects the aircraft’s physical gear position and communicates it to iFly EFB.

Smart Gear Alerts is supported on Android, iOS, and Windows devices.
