Wake Turbulence Encounter Leads to Bent SR22T

By General Aviation News Staff · November 4, 2026 · Leave a Comment

The pilot of the Cirrus SR22T was cleared to land at the airport in Palm Springs, California, by air traffic control and cautioned of wake turbulence from a commercial airliner that had just landed.

While on final approach, the SR22T encountered wake turbulence and the left wing was pushed up. The pilot corrected with full aileron deflection as the right wing hit the ground.

The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right aileron.

Probable Cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from a commercial airliner, which resulted in an encounter with wake turbulence and subsequent loss of control, resulting in impact with terrain.

NTSB Identification: 195511
