The Arizona Pilots Association (APA) and the U.S. Forest Service have completed runway crack sealing at Grapevine Airstrip (88AZ) following weather-related delays, according to project organizers.
The Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF) helped coordinate the project through its Cost Share agreement with the Tonto National Forest. Under the arrangement, the Forest Service paid a portion of the costs, while the APA covered the majority of the crack sealing expenses.
“Our contractors did a great job on the recent crack seal project,” said Tommy Thomason, APA officer.
Located near Roosevelt Lake, the airstrip offers camping accommodations supported by volunteer maintenance. Amenities include two ramadas, fire rings, and two vault toilets installed through the RAF Cost Share program. Volunteers organize regular work parties for weed and erosion control to keep the grounds operational.
Aviators are invited to participate in group fly-in camping weekends held the third weekend of each month from September through April.
