Picture of the Day: Indian Mounds

By General Aviation News Staff · June 20, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Jeff Wolf submitted this photo and note: “I love history! This is a picture of Talahina Airport (6F1) in Southeast Oklahoma, nestled in the valley between the Jackfork and Kiamichi Mountains. My wife Nikki took this picture while we were flying over the airport. The sun was setting and it cast the shadows just right to be able to see what we know as Indian Mounds. I have flown into this airport many times and never noticed that the Talahina strip was built right on top of an old Indian encampment. The Mounds appear to be on both sides of the runway. It is intriguing to know that for every mound you see, there lived a family. By the way, Nikki and I were flying in our Cessna 172F.”

Stall fatal for two

By General Aviation News Staff · June 20, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Probable Cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed while maneuvering at low altitude, which resulted in an exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack and a subsequent aerodynamic stall.
