Red Bull Air Race moves finale from China to Austria

The 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship season final will now be staged at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on October 25 and 26. The final race of the season has been moved to the F1 circuit in the Styrian mountains in place of the original race location in China due to feasibility. This will serve as a homecoming of sorts, as the series started with its first-ever race in Zeltweg, Austria.

Flying Musicians awarded Wolf grant

The Flying Musicians Association (FMA) has been awarded a 2013 program Wolf Aviation Fund grant to assist in acknowledging and strengthening the bonds between aviation and music, in the FMA’s programs that enhance outreach and education.

Droneport: FAA Approves Test of Drone Power Line Exams

Droneport is reporting the “FAA has approved San Diego Gas & Electric’s test program for the examination of rural power transmission lines with drone-mounted HD cameras.” SDGE will fly sub-one-pound quadcotpers in “four rural test sites 70 miles east of San Diego in the McCain, Valley. The drones replace manned helicopter inspections that cost nearly as much per flight hour as the drone system’s total cost.”
