Photo of the Day
Picture of the Day: Spit and polish
General Aviation News photographer Megan Vande Voort went “back to Blakesburg” for the 2022 Antique Airplane Association annual fly-in at Antique Airfield (IA27) in Iowa, which was held Aug. 30-Sept. 5. On opening day, she captured this Staggerwing getting cleaned up before the show.
Picture of the Day: What’s a pilot without a mechanic?
General Aviation News columnist William E. Dubois spied this message at a display while at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, a message, he says, that speaks for itself.
Picture of the Day: Not as bad as it looks
While strolling the grounds of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, General Aviation News columnist William E. Dubois came upon an upside-down airplane. It wasn’t the aftermath of an accident — but rather an attention-getting device for BAS Part Sales, a Colorado aircraft salvage company.
Picture of the Day: Waving to the crowds
General Aviation News photographer Geremy Kornreich captured this photo of Steve Gustafson of the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team waving to the crowds after one of the team’s performances at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022.
Pictures of the Day: Like a homesick angel
Lincoln Benedict submitted this photos with a note: “Did a fun adventure over the weekend that I’ve been pondering for a while: Marcy Field (1I1) to Mt. Marcy (5,344 feet, the tallest mountain in New York state). I brought my bike with me so I could get to the trailhead on the east side. Took the Phelps trail up and then Southside back: 16.5 miles. Refueled myself with an ice cream and two iced teas
and back to the plane. What a delightful takeoff — with half fuel and a
light load this thing climbs like a homesick angel. What a day!”
Picture of the Day: Smoking takeoff pass
General Aviation News writer Frederick A. Johnsen captured this very cool photo at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022. He notes: “An extremely slow shutter speed of 1/80 seconds catches Matt Younkin’s Beech 18 on its smoking takeoff pass.”
Picture of the Day: Dawn Patrol
Glenn Swiatek submitted this photo and note: “Over the Colorado River en route to Steamboat Springs. Looking for turbulence, couldn’t even find a burble. It’ll show up later. Taken from Kent Rockwell’s RV-3A at 11,500 msl. It first flew on Nov. 2, 1985.”
Pictures of the Day: Moon over Ryan Field
Glenn Brasch, the man behind AirportCourtesyCars.com, typically spends a few weeks every year volunteering at the Recreational Aviation Foundation‘s Ryan Field (2MT1) in Montana. Here are a few photos he snapped of visiting airplanes that captures the rising moon and the early morning fog.
