Photo of the Day
Picture of the Day: Cessna plans
Gary Westlind submitted this photo and note: “In Anchorage this spring and found this drawing of a Cessna Model 120 and 140 that I wanted to share with anyone who has time in this magnificent flying machine, especially after reading Jamie Beckett’s Politics for Pilots column, “At least 12% of this story is true.”
Picture of the Day: Waiting out the rain
Shawn Shay submitted this photo and note: “Ran into some bad weather and decided to wait it out at The O’Neill Municipal Airport-John L Baker Field (KONL) in Nebraska. Ended up spending the night. Great place to be stuck: Cable TV, five courtesy cars, and a downtown close by for dinner and essentials.”
Picture of the Day: Massive power
Will Vergonet submitted this photo and note: “Pratt & Whitney R985 engine as seen from below during an annual inspection.”
Picture of the Day: My new co-pilot
Christian Sanchez submitted this photo and note: “A few months ago, I introduced my dog to flying, and ever since, she’s been hooked. Now, whenever I roll out the C-150, she runs straight to the plane and settles underneath it with the biggest smile. On this day, I happened to have my phone with me and finally captured what has become her little ritual — pure joy every time she sees the airplane.”
Picture of the Day: Flight lessons
Wai Kuen Leung submitted this photo and note: “During my short instructor life I met some amazing peeps.”
Pictures of the Day: Vintage Bonanza check-out
Scott Crane submitted these photos and note: “Our son Scotty Crane finishing his American Bonanza Society Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program (BPPP) check-out at our home airport in Poplar Grove, Illinois, following a seven-year restoration of our 1948 Bonanza. ABS Recognized CFI Craig Baily provided instruction in our Bonanza to a future ABS Recognized CFI. Photos by proud mom Beth Crane.”
Picture of the Day: Scary storm
Gary Lanthrum submitted this photo and note: “Flying home from EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025 back to the Seattle area I encountered lots of thunderstorms. Many required significant re-routing, but this one let me fly my intended track about 10 miles from the nasty bits. The storm had a well-defined edge that stayed to the north of me. I watched closely for any signs of expansion in my direction. It was my lucky day. I made it to Aberdeen, South Dakota, for the night without incident.”
Picture of the Day: Next generation pilot
Rick Champagne submitted this photo and note: “Here’s a picture of my 6-year-old grandson looking out the window in wonder on his first flight in my C-170A. It was his first ride in a small plane. He absolutely loved it. My dad was a commercial pilot, my son (who was also on this flight) got his license a while back, and now we hope to pass our love of aviation on to the youngest. It was a nice late afternoon flight close to sundown, from a grass strip, low and slow over the area and then back. It was a huge moment for me, in many ways. Once we landed I couldn’t think of any better way to end the day.”
