The fronts, the troughs, the ridges, the high and low pressure systems and, of course, those occasional tropical problems all catch the attention of pilots and dispatchers. As they should.

Aviation’s impact in North Carolina tops $72 billion

North Carolina’s 72 publicly owned airports contribute more than $72 billion to the state’s economy each year and support nearly 333,000 jobs, according to a report released in January 2023 by the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation.

When I spoke to the pilot while he was refueling, he insisted I had done something wrong and dangerous. I asked if he wanted to talk about it to see if there was anything to be learned. He was hostile, angry, and said “no” several times, finished refueling and left via 36, again with a tailwind.

The latest features Bob Rogers, who bases his two aircraft at McKinney National Airport (KTKI) in Texas. Bob’s hangar houses his 1966 V35 Bonanza and his experimental Mustang II, which Bob says means he has the “best of both worlds.”
