The incident could have been avoided with a simple, final walk around the aircraft after having “ground personnel” (my son) move the airplane out of the hangar.

We are based at KTTA in Sanford N.C., the home of Wings of Carolina Flying Club. It was an excellent learning experience, and along the way we met some awesome people who welcome us in their FBOs. Pilots came out to greet us and chatted about where we were coming from and where we were going. The C-172 that we flew is forever in our hearts. One of my great memories of this adventure was to know that a handful of pilots, mechanics, and instructors were checking on our progress and well-being on FlightAware. Many gave us pointers on how to prep for this trip as it was my first long cross-country in very busy airspace. As of now, my wife and I are already planning the next flying adventure. Until then….”
