115 pilots set to compete in Air Race Classic

The race begins at 8 a.m. June 21, 2022, when 50 planes will launch full throttle, 30 seconds apart, down the runway at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL) in Florida. From there, they will embark on a 2,548-mile course that ends June 24 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

When Amelia Earhart landed in Derry, Northern Ireland, in May 1932, “no one had ever seen a woman driving a car, let alone flying an airplane or wearing trousers,” said Nicole McElhinney, co-founder of the Amelia Earhart Legacy Association. “Her fearless spirit was revolutionary, particularly for women, and continues to be an inspiration around the world.”
