NTSB calls on FAA to issue AD for hazardous rudder posts on some older Pipers

The NTSB has asked the FAA to Issue an Airworthiness Directive that describes the safety risk associated with the continued use of some rudder posts made of 1025 carbon steel in some vintage PA-12s, PA-14s, and PA-18s.

FAA approves Plane-Power part for Jasco alternator conversion kits

“There are thousands of Jasco alternators currently in the field on all types of engines from legacy radials to newer-generation Continental and Lycoming engines,” said Keith Bagley, president of Hartzell Engine Technologies, Plane-Power’s parent company. “Unfortunately, as those original components age, their reliability goes down and cost of ownership goes up.”

I think he missed me by less than 20 feet. It was incredibly close. Then I rejoined final, and went around. As I went around I saw the offending 172 landing in front of me. I vehemently asked for an explanation, as I was very shaken by what had happened. The 172 pilot finally replied and stated: “This is an uncontrolled airport, I don’t have to make radio calls.”
