Mars helicopter logs second successful flight

For this second flight test at Wright Brothers Field, Ingenuity took off at 5:33 a.m. EDT (2:33 a.m. PDT), or 12:33 p.m. local Mars time. But where Flight One topped out at 10 feet above the surface, Ingenuity climbed to 16 feet this time. After the helicopter hovered briefly, its flight control system performed a slight (5°) tilt, allowing some of the thrust from the counter-rotating rotors to accelerate the craft sideways for 7 feet, NASA officials reported.

GA advocates fight proposed legislation that would hobble NYC’s helicopter industry

The GA advocates emphasized that New York City does not have jurisdiction to impose the restrictions set forth in the two bills. The proposals are preempted by federal law, with only the FAA having the ability to regulate aviation over the city and the terms of access to public heliports, the GA advocates advise city officials.

Fatal helicopter accidents down 20% in 2020

Preliminary data shows 94 total U.S. helicopter accidents in 2020 compared to 121 accidents the year before. There also were 19 fatal accidents in 2020 compared to 24 fatal accidents in 2019.
