Business aviation steps up to assist Ian victims

As final preparations are being made for the start of the National Business Aviation Association’s annual Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) Oct. 18, 2022, the association has created a dedicated website featuring its humanitarian response program and other resources, in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian’s Florida landfall in late September.

New chart symbols aim to increase situational awareness about airport hotspots

Since 2017, the FAA has recorded more than 1,300 incidents of an aircraft landing on the wrong runway, a taxiway, or at the wrong airport. More than 80% of those incidents involved general aviation aircraft, FAA officials report. Wrong surface departures are also a significant concern, with more than 275 incidents recorded over the past five years — 83% involving GA aircraft.

Court order stalls planned restrictions at KHTO

East Hampton officials planned to close the airport at 11:59 pm (EDT) on May 17, 2022, and reopen it 33 hours later with multiple new restrictions in place, including a prior permission required program, increased landing fees, operating curfews, bans on aircraft weighing over 50,000 pounds and aircraft deemed “noisy,” and trip limits on Part 135 and 91(k) operations, according to officials with the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).

Pilots urged to support Florida tax reform

“If Florida eliminates the sales and use tax for aircraft as proposed in these bills, it would be more competitive with its neighbors, increasing general aviation activity and boosting the industry’s economic impact,” said Scott O’Brien, NBAA senior director, public policy and advocacy. “Aircraft owners would also visit more frequently without fearing a significant sales or use tax burden, which would provide more revenue for the state.”

Plans to close KHTO delayed

KHTO to become private use airport
