AvBid inaugural Sun ’n Fun auction called a success

By Janice Wood · April 19, 2011 ·

Officials with AvBid Aircraft Auctions (AvBid), a major sponsor of the Sun ’n Fun International Fly-In and Expo, report the company’s inaugural two day aviation auction held during this year’s air show was a resounding success.

AvBid President Don Stephens commented: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the auction. We sold aircraft despite the early bad weather and tornado that did so much damage to our friends and fellow vendors on the Sun ’n Fun campus.”

According to AvBid spokeman John Nuccio, more that 175 aircraft enthusiasts registered to bid during the two-day event. “Our hangar seating was filled to capacity and several dozen people gathered at the hangar door to participate in the sale. They came to watch, bid and enjoy the atmosphere of our fun filled auction event. One seller was brought to tears as his aircraft sold for more than his asking price,” stated Nuccio. “It was really hard to watch the plane go. You don’t understand — we went through some really rough stuff together and each time she brought us home safe,”commented the 40-year owner of a Beechcraft Baron that sold the first day.

“Our staff helped potential sellers obtain the maximum possible value for their aircraft in a very short period of time. In fact, using the auction process a sale can be made and closed in as little as 24 hours. Our buyers benefit by virtue of only paying one bid more than the previous bidder. It really is a win-win situation,” said Stephens.

All types of aircraft were offered at the auction, including single-engine piston, helicopters, warbirds and corporate jets. The aircraft were flown in and shown during the live auction in AvBid’s customized hanger showroom.

AvBid’s next aircraft auction is slated for Saturday, June 4, at 11 am at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (LAL) in Florida. Complete information is available by calling Sam Sirani at 888-420-4243 or at AvBidAircraftAuctions.com
