Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (OTH) has initiated new user fees for GA aircraft, according to a story at KCYB.com, which notes that small aircraft will be charged $10 to $25 to land, taxi and park on the ramp. Five and six passenger planes will pay about $150, while corporate jets that carry nine to 15 people will pay $200-$400.

Brilliant! Another nail in the coffin of GA. As many of the comments on the original article posted on the KCYB web site point out, Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (KOTH) is now an airport to avoid. And please do not confuse KOTH, in North Bend, OR which is next to Coos Bay, with Bend, OR and its airport KBDN. We are not that dumb east of the Cascades.
Why don’t they just paint a huge message on the runway: “Go away, we don’t want your business!”
And people wonder why general aviaition, is going down hill!
What a bunch of bone heads. Aviation brings people to your city. They spend $$ in your city. That’s why cities maintain airports. While airports are rarely a profitable business, they are a portal that brings substantial money and business to a city. If the politicians want to institute direct user fees for the airport use, then their city will be bypassed. It’s like they think the planes only come to their airport to land, then leave. Nothing happens in between. The airport is a city’s gateway to the world. When you put a tool booth on that gateway, many will not be stopping. Makes me wonder if the local politicians were imported from northern California.
