In a blog posted on Monday, December 19, fuels expert Ben Visser incorrectly stated that Exxon Mobil had stopped manufacturing 100LL for the general aviation marketplace. In fact, Exxon Mobil continues to manufacture 100LL for distribution under brand names other than its own. Exxon Mobil will cease selling 100LL under Avitat-branded FBOs. Says Ben Visser, “Sorry if I misled anyone.”

Ben Visser is not to blame.   News from ExxonMobil has been very scarce.  This is the first time I have heard that they intend to continue making and selling 100LL. Can GAN get them to issue a formal statement with details on what their plans are, and why they will no longer sell Avgas under their own name?   Is it financial, liability, competition, or some other reason?   Under what unbranded name will they be selling fuel, AVfuel, Epic, others ?   Why all the secrecy – all this does is help fuel speculation that 100LL will continue to disappear, which drives even more people out of aviation.
