SUN ’n FUN to host Fly Into Fall weekend

By Janice Wood · September 24, 2012 ·

SUN ’n FUN will present the Fly Into Fall Weekend Sept. 28-30 on the SUN ’n FUN campus on Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport (LAL) in Florida.

“It’s perfect weather for SUN ’n FUN’s Fall Weekend,” said SUN ’n FUN’s Director of Administration, Laura Vaughn.

Camping is available Friday and Saturday nights. Full hook-ups, aircraft and dry camping are all available. Registration is required for camping.

Start Saturday with a pancake breakfast, hosted by EAA Chapter 454. SUN ’n FUN President Lites Leenhouts will fly one lucky pancake breakfast guest for a 15-minute flight in the SUN ’n FUN Stearman “Wendy,” weather permitting.

The Pilot Mall shop will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, as well as the Florida Air Museum and its Hangar A Annex.

Meet Mike Zidziunas with Breezer Aircraft USA, one of Lakeland Linder Airport’s newest flight training schools, located in Hangar B on the SUN ’n FUN Campus, will be conducting demo flights in their Breezer LSA aircraft (pictured). Join the folks from Breezer Aircraft USA as they offer a cookout lunch for all guests.

Enjoy an “Around the World Flight” presentation by world record holder, pilot and author Carol Ann Garratt. Having flown around the world three times, she has many experiences to share, including her first flight in 2003, a seven-month adventure in her J-Model Mooney. Her 2008 flight set a new world record by circum-navigating the world in 8 ½ days. Her last flight was in 2011 and took 11 months, including stops in 35 countries.

Plan to stay for dinner provided by Earhart’s Runway Grill, and served in the Sunset Grill. Adult Dinner Ticket: $15 – Children Dinner Ticket $10. Leenhouts will also fly one lucky dinner guest for a 15-minute flight in the SUN ’n FUN Stearman “Wendy,” weather permitting.

Following dinner, guests will gather at the Fire Hub located in the campground.
